My First Teaching Blog

I am so excited to finally begin my first teaching blog.  It is something I have wanted to do for over a year, and as I am about to embark on some major changes in my teaching career, I thought now would be better than ever!  So the first step was choosing a name for my blog.  Of course, as an elementary teacher, I immediately started listing Z words that could go with Ziegler (my last name).  You know how much primary teachers love alliteration! I considered "The Ziegler Zone", "Zaney Ziegler's Blog", or "The Ziggy Zone".  Then I moved on to working with words that go with Kindergarten because that's what I get to teach this year! However, I doubt I'll be in Kindergarten  forever (as you get to know more about me this comment will make more sense to you), so do I really want to start a blog and then just have to change it's name next year, or the year after that, or the year after that?  So finally I decided to make it simple.  Teaching with Mrs. Ziegler just sounded too generic and Teaching with Mrs. Z just doesn't roll off the tongue that easily, so Teaching with Z will have to do.  Besides, after spending incredibly too much time obessing over the name of my blog I decided I was bored with that part of this process.  I am ready to get on to the fun stuff, sharing things with you!

I will be super busy this coming week because I am moving from one school that is six minutes from my front door to another school that is just four minutes from my front door!  In this economy, we can all celebrate saving mileage...no matter how small it may be, right?   Unfortunately, I can not get in my new room to start setting up until mid-August (insert gasp here). So I have to store all my classroom things, an entire decade worth of stuff, in the gym until my room is ready (insert incredibly dramatic and stressful sigh here).  But more importantly, I am going to the beach next week!  Yay!  Upon my return I can promise lots of new things for the blog.  Since I can't actually work in my room this summer, that means I will be spending endless hours searching the internet for loads of great things for teaching and then I can post the most awesome things right here on my blog for all of you.  Did I mention that this will be my first time teaching Kindergarten in ten years? EEK!  I sure do have a lot of prep work ahead of me...I can't wait!

Welcome to blogging! I hope you love it as much as I do.

The pictures of your room are great. I think I would be a nervous wreck if I could not get in my room until August.

I am happy to be your newest follower. I would love for you to hop over and visit me when you get the chance. =)

Hi again Rachel! Since you are moving to a school that sounds a lot like mine I wanted to tell you about Conscious Discipline. It is amazing and is all about building a school family....something our kiddos need. It has been amazing to see my "toughies" learn to be kind, helpful, and self controlled. 3 of Our School Family jobs really help our at-risk kiddos make those connections that they need...we have a greeter, wish well leader, and cheerleader. Conscious Discipline is also about being safe so the kiddos put their hearts in a safe keepers box each day and make a commitment to help me keep others safe. I would love for you to come read more about it....you can also read about how we use helpful hearts to fill our school family bucket. =)

Thank you for hopping by my blog. I would love for you to follow me back the next time you come to visit. =)
